The short version

1. Who we are
Smart Calendar ("the App") is made by BIAN Tech ("BIAN", "we", "us", "our"). This Privacy Policy explains what happens to information when you use the App on Android, including when it connects to other services.
If you have a question or a request about privacy, write to support@biantech.org or ltdbiantech@gmail.com. For the small amount of personal information that does reach us (mainly emails you send us, see Contacting us), BIAN Tech is responsible for it.
This Policy applies to the App as published on Google Play under the name Smart Calendar (package bian.smartcalendar), version 2.0 and later. Your use of the App is also governed by the Smart Calendar Terms of Service.
2. The short answer: we do not collect your data
The App has no account, no sign-in and no server of its own. It does its work on your device, and what you put in it stays there. We do not receive, store, sell or share:
- your events, reminders, to-dos, habits, notes, moods, categories or birthdays;
- your contacts, photos or voice;
- your location;
- advertising IDs, device identifiers or any identifier that follows you across apps;
- usage analytics, telemetry or crash reports sent automatically.
The only ways information reaches us are the ones you choose: an email you send us, or a bug report you decide to send from your own email app.
3. Information the App uses on your device
To work, the App uses the following information. All of it is processed on your device. It leaves the device only where this Policy says so, in Connections the App makes.

The App does not request precise or background location, and it requests no photo, video or storage permission.
Calendar data can be sensitive. Events can reveal health appointments, beliefs, relationships, travel and daily routines. Because this information stays on your device, its protection depends on your device. Use a screen lock and keep your phone up to date.
4. Connections the App makes
The App's core features work offline. It connects to the internet only for the optional features below, and only when you use them. Each connection reveals your IP address and ordinary connection details to the service you connect to, as every app's connections do. The App attaches no account or identifier of you.
Weather (Open-Meteo)
If you turn on weather, the App sends your approximate coordinates to Open-Meteo to get a local forecast. If you type a place name instead, that name is sent to Open-Meteo's place search to find its coordinates. Open-Meteo's terms and privacy policy apply (open-meteo.com).
Public holidays (Nager.Date)
If you import public holidays, the App sends the country, and where relevant the region, you selected to Nager.Date to fetch the list. Nothing else is sent.
Your location and place names (Google Play services)
To find your approximate location for weather and holidays, the App uses Android's location service, provided by Google Play services. It may also use Android's geocoder, which on most phones is provided by Google and may send approximate coordinates to Google to name your country, region or city. Google's Privacy Policy applies to these services.
Voice model (Vosk)
If you turn on the voice assistant, the App downloads the offline speech model once from the Vosk project's host. The download sends nothing about you. After that, speech is processed entirely on your device.
Your calendar account
Events in your device calendar, including any copies the App makes there, are synced by that calendar's account (for example Google Calendar or Microsoft Outlook) on that service's schedule, like any other event in it. That service's privacy policy applies to them.
Google Play
You install and update the App through Google Play, which is run by Google under its own terms and privacy policy.
5. Voice and "Hey Smart"
- The voice assistant and the "Hey Smart" wake word are both off by default. "Hey Smart" listens in the background only if you turn it on, and Android shows a notification while it does.
- Speech is turned into text on your device by an offline engine. Your voice is not sent to us, to Google or to anyone else.
- Audio is not recorded or kept. Only the text of the command is used, on your device, to do what you asked.
- You can turn voice off in the App or withdraw microphone access in Android's settings at any time. Everything else keeps working.
6. Calendar sync
Reading and writing are two separate switches in the App's settings.
- Show my Google Calendar events. The App reads events from calendars on your device (Google, Samsung, Microsoft Exchange or Outlook, local calendars and any other account that syncs through Android) so they appear in your schedule. It reads titles, descriptions, locations, times, colours and repeat rules.
- Copy my events to Google Calendar (off by default). When on, the App creates, updates and deletes copies of its own events in one calendar on your device. Deleting a copy in that calendar leaves the App's own event untouched.
If you turn off a switch or withdraw calendar access, the App stops reading or copying. Its own events, reminders, to-dos and notes keep working.
7. Permissions
The App asks Android for these permissions. You can refuse or withdraw any of them in Android's settings; only the related feature stops working.

9. How long information is kept
- Your items and settings stay on your device until you delete them, clear the App's data or uninstall the App. Uninstalling removes the App's own data, but not events in your device calendar, including copies the App made there.
- Android's automatic cloud backup is turned off for the App. The only backups are files you create.
- If you email us, we keep your message only as long as we need it to answer you and fix what you reported, and no longer than 24 months unless the law requires otherwise.
10. Security
The App keeps your data in its private storage, which other apps cannot read and which your device's encryption and screen lock protect. All of the App's own network connections use HTTPS, and unencrypted connections are turned off. Reminder and alarm titles follow your phone's setting for hiding sensitive content on the lock screen, and a link in an event shows the address it really opens before you tap it.
No software or storage is perfectly secure. We fix problems we find or that are reported to us, but we cannot guarantee that the App or your device is free of vulnerabilities. Report a security problem to support@biantech.org.
11. Your rights and choices
Because your data stays on your device, you control it directly in the App: you can view, edit and delete your items, export them to .ics or PDF, back them up and restore them, turn optional features off, withdraw permissions, or uninstall the App.
Depending on where you live, laws such as the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA, as amended by the CPRA) and India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 give you rights over personal data an organisation holds about you, such as the rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to or move it, and to withdraw consent. We hold none of your calendar data, so for it these rights are met by the controls above. For anything we do hold, such as an email you sent us, write to us and we will help.
- Legal bases (GDPR). Data the App processes on your device under your control does not reach us. Where we process personal data, such as your email, we do so to answer you and keep the App working: our legitimate interests, or steps you asked us to take.
- No sale or sharing. We do not sell or share personal information, as those words are used in the CCPA, and we do not use it for advertising or profiling.
- No automated decisions. We make no decisions about you based solely on automated processing.
- Complaints. You can complain to the data protection authority where you live or work. We would appreciate the chance to resolve your concern first.
We answer requests within 30 days, and may ask you to confirm details before acting on one.
12. Children
The App is not directed to children. You must be at least 13 to use it, or older if the law where you live requires it; younger users need a parent or guardian to agree to the Terms of Service for them. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
13. International transfers
The App does not send your calendar data anywhere. The optional services described in Connections the App makes, your calendar account, and our email providers may process information in countries other than yours, under their own safeguards and policies.
14. Changes to this Policy
If we change this Policy, we will publish the new version here with a new effective date. If a change is material, we will also tell you in the App before it applies. You can ask us for earlier versions.
What changed in this version. The developer is now named BIAN Tech. We clarified that approximate location is used for both weather and your region's holidays, added your rights and legal bases, how long we keep emails, and how to complain to a regulator. Contract terms such as warranties and liability are now only in the Terms of Service.

If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you send, and use them only to answer you and to fix what you report.
Nothing in this Policy limits rights you have under the law where you live that cannot be limited by agreement.
