Privacy Policy

1. Who we are and what this covers

Bianex Browser ("Bianex", "the App") is made by BIAN Tech ("BIAN", "we", "us", "our"). This Privacy Policy explains what happens to information when you use Bianex on Windows (including the portable form, Bianex Go) and on Android, and when you visit Bianex's websites (bianexbrowser.com and biantech.org).

It should be read together with the Bianex Terms of Use, which govern your use of the App. If you do not agree with this Policy, please do not use the App and uninstall it.

2. Our approach

• We do not operate user accounts, and the App has no sign-in.
• We do not run advertising, analytics, attribution or tracking SDKs, and we do not build profiles.
• We do not receive, store or sell your browsing history, searches, passwords or the contents of the pages you visit.
• Features such as page summaries, Reading Mode, "Your month in Bianex", the price tracker and Safe Browsing work on your device.
• Where the App must contact a server, we say so below, send only what that request needs, and attach no identifier of you.

3. Information we do not collect

We do not collect, receive or keep on our systems:

• account details, names, email addresses, phone numbers or postal addresses (unless you email us, see Section 11);
• your browsing history, the addresses you visit, your searches or the contents of pages;
• your passwords, form entries or payment details;
• your location, contacts, photos, camera images or microphone audio;
• advertising IDs, device IDs or any identifier that follows you across apps or sites;
• usage analytics, telemetry, crash reports sent automatically, or A/B testing data.

4. What stays on your device

The App keeps the following on your device so that it can work. We have no access to it.

• History, bookmarks, Favourites, open tabs and the session restored after a crash;
• Settings, per-site choices (zoom, permissions you gave a site, sites whose ads you allowed, sites you excluded from ad blocking);
• Saved passwords: on Windows in Windows Credential Manager, on Android encrypted with the Android Keystore. Form Autofill entries on Windows are kept with the App, their password fields in Windows Credential Manager;
• Downloads you start, and the list of them;
• Counts of ads and trackers blocked, "Bianex this week" and "Your month in Bianex", Continue reading, price-tracker items you add;
• Copies of the filter lists and the ad-blocking engine built from them;
• Cookies, site storage and cache created by the sites you visit, kept by the browser engine;
• A local diagnostics log (on Windows, web addresses in it are cut to the site name) and crash logs. They are never uploaded by the App.

Private tabs and Ghost Mode do not add to your history. On Windows, the portable form keeps all of this in the BianexData folder beside the App.

Data on your device is protected by your device. Use a screen lock, keep your system updated and protect your device from malware. We cannot recover data you lose, and we are not responsible for access to your data through your device being lost, shared, compromised or infected (see the Terms of Use).

5. Connections the App makes

Every connection to a server reveals your IP address and ordinary connection details (such as the time and the software making the request) to that server. That is how the internet works for every app. The App attaches no account or identifier of you to the requests below. Each server is run under its operator's own terms and privacy policy.

5.1 Websites you visit

When you open a page, the App connects to that website and to whatever the page loads, except what Bianex blocks. Websites may collect information under their own policies. Pages are shown by your system's browser engine: Microsoft Edge WebView2 on Windows and Android System WebView on Android, components of Microsoft and Google that may send their own diagnostic data as your system settings allow. On Windows, Bianex turns off Microsoft SmartScreen inside WebView2, so the addresses you visit are not sent to Microsoft for checking.

5.2 Ad-blocking and safety lists (third parties)

The App downloads public filter lists from their independent publishers: on Windows each time it starts (24 lists, from easylist.to, secure.fanboy.co.nz, filters.adtidy.org, raw.githubusercontent.com, pgl.yoyo.org, someonewhocares.org, malware-filter.gitlab.io and i-dont-care-about-cookies.eu), on Android about once a day (4 lists, from filters.adtidy.org, easylist.to and pgl.yoyo.org). Only the lists are fetched; nothing about your browsing is sent. Safe Browsing then checks addresses on your device against these lists; no address is sent anywhere to be checked.

5.3 Signed settings and filter pack (BIAN)

The App downloads a small configuration file, and on Android a curated filter pack, from bianex.biantech.org. Both are signed by us and ignored if the signature does not match. They carry safety notices, a maintenance switch, minimum versions (see Section 7) and filter updates, and contain nothing about you. They are hosted on GitHub Pages, whose operator may keep ordinary request logs under its own policy.

5.4 Updates

On Windows the App checks bianexbrowser.com for a new version when it starts and when you ask, and downloads an update only if you accept it; an update is installed only if it is signed with our key. On Android, updates come through Google Play under Google's terms.

5.5 Search suggestions (Windows, optional)

While you type in the address bar, the App can ask your chosen search engine for suggestions, sending what you have typed so far to that search engine. This is on by default and can be turned off in Settings. On Android, suggestions come only from your own history and bookmarks.

5.6 Site icons (Windows)

To show a site's icon in Favourites and on the new tab, the App fetches the icon from that site itself. No third-party icon service is used. On Android, the icon a page provides while you visit it is used.

5.7 Reading Mode, link preview and page summary (Windows, when you use them)

To show Reading Mode, a link preview or a summary, the App fetches the page again from its website. The summary is made on your device.

5.8 Translation (when you ask)

Translating a page opens it through Google Translate, which receives the page's address and content under Google's privacy policy.

5.9 Media artwork (Android)

To show the picture of what is playing in the island and the media notification, the App may fetch the picture the page names, from the server the page names.

5.10 Secure DNS (Windows, optional)

If you turn on DNS-over-HTTPS in Settings, the names of the sites you visit are looked up through Cloudflare's resolver (cloudflare-dns.com) instead of your network's.

5.11 Things you choose to do

• Downloads connect to the server you download from.
• Sharing, opening a link in another app, or scanning a QR code's link hands the address to the app or site you chose. Shared text can carry a "via Bianex" line, which you can turn off.
• Support links that Bianex finds on a page (for example Ko-fi or Patreon) open those services only when you tap them.
• Donating to Bianex in cryptocurrency is a transaction on a public blockchain, visible to anyone, made with your own wallet; Bianex only shows the address.
• Feedback on Android opens your own email app with a message to us. A log is attached only if you choose; web addresses, tokens, titles and search terms are removed from it first. Nothing is sent until you send the email.

6. App permissions

On Android the App asks for these permissions:

On Windows the App needs no special permissions. On both, a website may ask to use your camera, microphone, location or notifications; Bianex asks you before a site gets it, and you can withdraw it (on Windows, in each site's settings).

7. Signed settings: notices, maintenance and minimum versions

Through the signed configuration in Section 5.3 we may show a safety notice, require an update, place the App or a feature in maintenance, or stop a version that has a serious problem from running. We do this to protect users and fix defects. The App ignores configuration that is not signed by us.

8. Security

We design the App to keep your data on your device and to protect it there: passwords in your system's credential store or encrypted with its keystore, HTTPS with certificate checks for the App's own connections, signed updates and configuration, websites kept out of the App's own controls, and encrypted backups (a backup file is encrypted with a passphrase you choose; we cannot open it or recover a lost passphrase).

No software or method of storage or transmission is completely secure. We fix the problems we find and those reported to us, but we cannot guarantee that the App, your device or the websites you visit are free of vulnerabilities.

9. Your choices and rights

• You can view, edit and delete your history, bookmarks, passwords and settings in the App, clear site data, or uninstall the App, which removes its data from the device (on Windows, the portable folder's data goes when you delete the folder).
• You can turn off search suggestions, the "via Bianex" line, and other optional features in Settings.
• You can export your bookmarks and, on Windows, make an encrypted backup.

Laws such as the EU and UK GDPR, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA) and India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 give you rights over personal data that an organisation holds about you. Because we hold none of your browsing data, these rights are met by the controls above on your own device. For anything we do hold (an email you sent us), contact us (Section 11). We do not sell or share personal information, as those words are used in the CCPA. You can also complain to the data protection authority where you live.

10. Children

Bianex is a general-purpose browser and is not directed to children. You must be at least 13, or older where the law where you live requires it, to use it; younger users need a parent or guardian to agree to these terms and to supervise them. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.

11. Contact, and when you write to us

If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you send, and use them only to answer you and to fix what you report. We keep them only as long as needed for that, and no longer than 24 months unless the law requires otherwise.

If you ask to join the waitlist or to hear product news (the Waitlist on bianexbrowser.com opens your own email app with a message to us), we keep your email address for that alone, send only occasional news about Bianex, never pass it to anyone, and delete it when you ask: reply to any message or write to us at any time.

We aim to answer within 30 days. We may ask you to confirm details before acting on a request.

12. Our websites

bianexbrowser.com and biantech.org are static websites hosted on GitHub Pages, which receives your IP address and request details under GitHub's own privacy statement. Neither site uses cookies, analytics or advertising.

• bianexbrowser.com loads nothing from other servers. Its Waitlist sends nothing by itself: it opens your own email app with a message to us (Section 11).
• biantech.org also loads nothing from other servers: its fonts, images and videos come from biantech.org itself. Its newsletter, like the Waitlist, sends nothing by itself: it opens your own email app with a message to us, and the address you send it from is used only to send BIAN's news and deleted when you ask us to unsubscribe you. The Website Privacy Notice has the details.

Links to other sites are governed by those sites' own policies.

13. Third parties

Websites, filter-list publishers, search engines, translation, payment and blockchain services, GitHub, Google and Microsoft act under their own terms and privacy policies, which we do not control. Bianex's protections reduce tracking by third parties but cannot remove it entirely.

14. Changes to this Policy

If we change this Policy, we will update the version and date above. If the change is material, the App will show you the new Policy and ask you to agree to it before you continue. Earlier versions are available on request.

27 October 2026: the developer is now named BIAN Tech, and Section 12 describes the new biantech.org. Nothing about how the App handles information changed.

15. Legal terms

Warranties, liability, indemnity, governing law and how disputes are resolved are set out in the Bianex Terms of Use, which apply to this Policy too. Nothing in this Policy limits rights you have under the law where you live that cannot be limited by agreement.
